Anyone had trouble getting the old oil filter off ?
Not had this problem on previous oil changes , but this time its on solid. I have tried a strap wrench , filter pliers ( large circular pliers ) , a three tooth expanding wrench contraption - and nothing.
And yes , I am turning it the right way !
Before I stick a large screw driver in it .....
Any ideas gratefully received.

I've not had a problem with stuck filters since I started using one of these devices; Quite a few companies make them, or at least one company makes them and lots of companies put their names on them...

That device certainly looks like the right one for the job.
All I have to say is that, when trying to get a stubborn oil filter out on the M3W, pay very particular and close attention to the oil pressure sensor that is dangerously and inconveniently located within reach of a slipping filter wrench. I recently broke mine during a routine oil filter change, and it was a hassle to get it all sorted back out.
Good luck!

Ive never had an issue getting even the most stubborn oil filter off with the rubber strap wrenches that have teeth to catch the strap. Its friction based, so is only limited by your strength. If that doesnt do it, screw driver is next option.

My oil filter wrench uses a bicycle type chain attached to a 1/2 inch socket type lug. You put the socket bar on an it tightens the chain into the filter.

Thank all.
I was at Halfords at lunch time , looking for ideas and saw one of those screw type strap wrenches ...
It finally came off just now with what I would consider super excessive force using the spider - the canister now looks like a piece of shrapnel but at least it didnt burst.
I will be checking carefully how much I over turn the new one when fitting. 3/4 a turn after initial contact from memory.
Thanks again

You and I were thinking alike, screwdriver was my next option for you...
I'm sure this is redundant, but do not forget to oil the rubber seal when installing.
Glad you're moving on with it now.

You can get a wrench that's like a large socket, search oil filter socket. They come in different diameters and with different number of flats. I have had to buy two as S&S filters and HD filters whilst interchangeable have a different number of flats.
