Well, I have now sold the +8 and am looking out for a DB9 or possibly a DB7. Volante, of course.

I’ve never driven an Aston but always admired the DB9 and the smaller vantage. I don’t like the combination on any other cars, but bright silver and navy or ox blood leather would be my choice, these cars were born classics.
Not so keen on the DB7, they’re also lovely, but unless it’s a real bargain, always felt it was too similar to the Jag which is half the money.

Happy hunting, buying them is all part of the fun.

DB9. Lovely car. As ewn says, DB7 is just an XK8 in a party frock. Not that there's anything wrong with that, XK8s are lovely cars too, but why pay Aston money for one?

I understood that the DB7 was developed from the XJS platform rather than the XK8, and that the XK8 was then a development of the DB7 platform (rather than the other way around).

The DB9 is a cracking motor, and for what it is looks strikingly good value on the second hand market. A quick trawl turned up several nice, apparently well cared for Volantes with modest mileage in the £35-40K bracket.

Best of luck with the search.

Have to say a few years ago I drove the XK8 and the DB7 back to back and the Jag won my vote as the nicer car to drive and would be better for longer distances. Then there was the money when new and it was a no brainier. I suppose as you can now pick up an XK8 sub £10k and as Giles says a dec ent DB7 around £30-35k perhaps the Aston will hold its value better being rarer.

DB9 or XKR would be my choice.... avoid the DB7. I've had a few Astons and know many Aston owners - hence my comment. smile

Thank you all for your replies. I am leaning towards the DB9, having had a DB7, which I found a good drive.

You need to be careful the Jags rot, floors and sills.
