I want to loose the look of a bright aluminium Mulfab radiator poking down low beneath the car

Can anyone foresee any issues spraying this bit black to loose it visually?

And if this is perfectly doable without problems, what paint would be best?

Not sure how long it would last, but I'd use VHT exhaust paint. A thin coat should be enough to darken the look, be careful not to clog the fins or you'll mess up the cooling.

black paint shouldn't hurt provided you don't block the air flow.

Did mine years ago if you dig out a photo on here should be one of the engine (General photo gallery page 2 ) ps. thats in the late 1980s and still going strong . I just give it a coat of wax with the rest of the car . Has not effected anything . Better if you use oil based it does flake in the fins so keep a good quality art brush and a tin of black paint to touch it up . Give Dean a shout . He owes me one as we gave him some home made lemon m/lade with Limoncino liquore Cremoso along with 6 Hot Cross Buns . Last time I saw a look like that was when I give my late Staffy a bone . grin2

ps. The lads did not get a sniff.

An alternative is to mount a valance. Cain from Wolf engineering produces nice ones.
https://www.wolfperformance.co.uk/
I fitted a stubby and had it painted in dark blue to match the mog.
I am very happy with the result, as well as with the quality of work as well as the service from Wolf engineering.

Sraying it Matt Black would increase it's ability to dispel the heat.
Rustoleum produce a very good heat resistant Matt Black paint that is available in an aerosol.
If sraying onto aluminium they (Rustoleum) recommend the use of their so called "Sticker" first, which is a primer that greatly improves the adhesion of paint onto difficult surfaces such as aluminium or zinc plated steel.

It won’t anodise nicely
It will have been welded with 4043 aluminium welding rod which contains silicon
The anodising process reacts with the silicon and gives a nasty appearance

Paint it with cheap and cheerful satin black spray, scuff up the tank with scotchbrite for better paint adhesion
You’ll have no issues with heat rejection, and it’s easy enough to touch up any stone chips

Thanks everyone for your help

I have had a discussion with Cain on a valance but I’ll do this in the meantime

Stewart,
Make a valance: you are obviously handy and it will protect the bottom of the rad especially if the curve just clears it.
