I use one of these http://www.boot-bag.com/Can get a lot in it and it can double up as a holdall, not had any water ingress even in torrential rain I second that, Boot Bag has loads of room and secures well to rack with plenty of straps.

When I'm away on my own I use a 25litre Peli Storm case. When Jane is with me we need a 75 litre Samsonite hard shell case.
Both are completely waterproof.

We started with a large black bin bag as a temporary solution and ended up with a large black bin bag as our permanent solution.

The first is that the end straps secure the bag to the rack. No other fastener is needed, although I tend to use an elasticated spider as a belt & braces. The second is that the bags have a handle on each end, which means that I and MrsW can handle it easily, although it does resemble a body bag.

My Mog was supplied with a hood and a tonneau cover. In heavy rain I have used the hood to protect tonneau and driver and the tonneau cover to protect the suitcase.

Uncle Melvyn made a bespoke cover for our antique leather suitcase from the same vinyl material as our hood. Looks really smart and totally waterproof.
Downside is that the suitcase is far to heavy to use and we're considering our options for the upcoming touring season. We also have one of the Morgan leather suitcases and in the end we decided it was impossibly heavy. I looked around and eventually found a suitcase that is reasonably light, looks the part, and has a zip that is almost completely covered. In fact in a light and brief showe I would not even bother to cover it. A clear vinyl cover is available and I use that if it looks like rain. The case is the Brics Bellagio. David, I have a suitcase cover that was professionally made for my first 4/4 in black, you are welcome to it if the size is right. I'll have a measure up when I get 5.

We use a bootbag and loads of room. It also sits lower on our rack so unimpeded rear view. I use extra straps to fix it but those attached do a good job anyway. The only mod I have done is to add poppers to hold down the flap that covers the zip.
