Thank you Phil for being able to learn from your experiences. I must have read your blog at least 20 times, to really understand it’s details and intricacies. Pure gold, as well as good humor.
Still early days on my experience, but in my eyes your kit is a much needed addition - for a relatively small investment - for anybody upgrading to a centa or having to replace chewed-up rubber ball inserts (even with the new rubber ball material spec upgraded to a harder type). And hopefully my car will provide you som more data points of your kit (in particular the BB top-mount) helps to distribute the load/vibrations in a non-NVH car.

Hi Dlivadas and welcome to the mad world of M3Ws  Great write up on your mods and improvements. I've got a Oct 2013 so have followed the same sort of upgrade path. The 2 biggest changes were the Centa drive and the Stage 1 exhausts. Each made it smoother and more tractable. Re the urban cooling, apparently a significant part of the benefit is it channels cooling air to the back of the cylinders when in motion so maybe don't cut down the shroud too much. I agree the plastic looks pants so I simply had the top plate painted black  It'll be interesting to hear how you get on with Suplex. Although they remain on the MMC option list I don't think there's been much (if any) positive feedback on TM - hence the interest in Ohlins. Also, we will be keen to see how Phil's Centa upgrade works out in the field. Enjoy the many miles and smiles to come

Since the cooling kit was brought up, I've had this thought for some time about controlling the fans.
The new GPS speed sensors have outputs that can turn on different accessories at any given speed. Not that you need another speedometer.
I'm not sure when you buy the Urban Cooling Kit for an older M3W if you get the upgraded ECM or program for just the cooling kit or not. But if you do need to control it other than just an on/off switch, but it could be an option.
Say, turn on at idle or anything less than 5 mph. You could have an override master switch that in cool weather it would never come on, but in warmer climates having the fan on below 5 mph might be a good idea.
Just thought I'd throw it out if someone needs a controller etc.

Didn't want to get into the fan issues but as it seems a popular subject here is my ten pennorth.
My cooling fan was installed by a dealer prior to my purchasing the vehicle. It never, ever switched on! I assumed that the engine never got hot enough. Occasionally the engine would go in to skip fire mode which made pulling away almost impossible and I resolved to find out the cause of the malfunction. Trying a spare ECU from a friend was no different so I guess it must have been the fan at fault. In the mean time I installed my polyurethane inserts in the Centa coupling. On a particularly heavy traffic morning coming out of Hull the engine went in to skip fire again but now, with the new inserts it caused no difficulties and as soon as you get above ten MPH the skip fire mode switches off again.
I am tempted to ask why the fan was needed in the first place? A motorbike fitted with this engine has one cylinder behind the other - a crazy set up as far as cooling is concerned but no need for a fan. A bike can however, pull away in skip fire mode with no trouble - these days, so can I.
Anybody want to buy a dodgy urban cooling kit? It is in the back of the garage with the NVH kit, some black rubber barrel shaped things, a clapped out aluminium sprocket and a toothed belt. Ho Hum.

The worn out sprocket was the donor for the chain sprocket carrier so it has no middle any more sorry. Look in www.bleazey.co.uk to see what I mean

Hi Phil I have installed the urban cooling kit onto a 2012 model. The retro fit kit is ugly! The plastic shriud desperately needs a good paint. Besides the physical install an ECU reflash is required to control when to come on etc. This flash disables the skipfire mode. So if you still have skipfire operating then the Fan probably wasnt installed correctly

My car does not have the cooling fan & I have never encountered skip fire. I did enquire about the fan from my dealer & can confirm what P964 said "Besides the physical install an ECU reflash is required to control when to come on etc. This flash disables the skipfire mode." My dealer offered to send the kit to me for fitting myself & they would do the enabling reflash on my next visit. I never went ahead.

Yeah, thanks guys, that is more or less what I had concluded. I'll leave it in the back of the garage till I need a fan to cool the workshop in hot weather - if we ever get any! Or, maybe I should put it on the for sale and wants page?
