Hello Guys,

I just landed on the forum a few days back. I'll put it simply:

I am lusting after the 3 wheeler !

I've spent about 5 hours with one both as a driver and passenger and cannot get it out of my head. But you all know that since you own one :-).

I've lurked around the forum for a while and have picked up on the necessary duds the car come from (bevel box, exhaust falling off, indicator case melting etc etc ...). It doesn't scare me at all as it is exactly the same as on any car forum. (you should see the conversations on the LS7 engine of the Z06 the Bevel box issue is a gentleman's agreement in comparison).

Here is my issue:

The UAE dealer has just closed its doors because sales didn't happen. Now I tried buying one for the better part of last year but they never even bothered calling me back or offering me a car to buy on the multiple visits I did. No loss there !

I've been looking internationally for my purchase. I initially was looking at a low mileage 2012-2014 model but it seems everyone so far has told me to go for a higher mileage one (which goes again general car buying wisdom but since its a morgan it doesn't apply :D). Reason behind that argument is that if any of the big issues hasn't happened then the car is safe.

I should check for Urban Fan kit, Anti-bump steer kit (is it what people list as comfort kit?), reinforced chassis and reinforced exhaust holders. Let's not forget about a purring bevel box.

Am I missing anything?

Is it reasonable to find a car between the 36,000$ to 43,000$ mark with all the above criteria?

USA seems to have the cheaper ones compared to Europe (despite shipping).

So far here are the contenders:

2012 model light green - Loads of upgrades - BV no info - 8000 miles - 36,500$ https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/x/x/x/1995624.html
2012 model spitfire green - Comfort kit - BV no info - 4500 miles - 38,000$ https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/x/x/x/2039226.html
2013 model Blue - Urban Fan - Quiet BV- 850 miles - Showroom piece - Listed at 42,500$ https://www.morgan-motor.co.uk/dealer/mo...in-v-twin-2013/

I wouldn't pay too much attention to advertised prices, they never seem to sell at them.

Would certainly avoid the Brooklands version due to the well publicised silencer issues that most seem to suffer from. Would also try to stretch to the later 2014 onwards spec. built after VIN number SA9M3WV2EDP202114. This will give you a version with a wide range of improvements generally accepted as increasing the reliability over earlier models put into production without adequate testing, and including Centa transmission cush drive, fan cooling kit, strengthened chassis, NVH kit etc. Although the effectiveness of the latter seems to be in dispute, the negative aspects seem generally to apply to early cars which acquired this kit as a retro-fit.

In essence purchasing a 2014 on model saves you worrying about recommended factory modifications since they left without need for them.

The 2017 factory demonstrator, 12,000 miles, is on offer for £33,495 or US$47,000. I'd buy it, if I was allowed to by swmbo .... hide

It is a Euro 3 machine and will be mechanically perfect with no issues. So a very safe buy.

Shipping to the UAE isn't prohibitively expensive and the Factory can probably arrange it.

I agree with you on every point however I have to spare budget for shipping the Mog over to my desert land so I cannot sadly splash on a later model which are mostly well over 50,000$. Keep in mind i have 5-10% in duties waiting and 2-3 grand in shipping.

How much give does those price inspire. 5-10%?

As for the above demo car I'd buy it in a heart beat but the steering is on the right side and will not pass MOT tests here.

You might want to look here

Le Parking

It has a wider selection than the Morgan company site, with quite a few left hand drive vehicles.

Yeah I've had a go at every dealer website listed and every single major second hand car market webiste (including Le Parking).

https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/x/x/x/1995624.html

This one is the right price but the color is pretty dull and I'd have to deal with a private individual which means there's more room for price negotiation but for things to go wrong too.

Colour is a personal thing. To my eyes, teal is a great colour for the M3W. This one appears to have had most of the upgrades but could do with the urban cooling kit & also the rectifier needs relocating to the chassis rather than its current location on the engine.

How much does the cooling kit cost ?

And I hate to be the guy for asking but with such high listing prices what would the real market price go in winter. 5-15% less?

The different bring a trailer listing I found that are similar to what I listed in my first post are around 35,000$. Considering you guys are freezing right now I doubt there is much of a market for those.

PS: Jeez a 138 views !

I quite like the teal colour ‘in the flesh’, nicer than the Land Rover blue or grey.
The one on Hemmings (I seem to recall the seller is on TM) looks like a genuine car and sale with most of the upgrades done. I would definitely put the cooling kit on for Dubai though. Mark Ledington at the Factory is a shipping expert so could help with estimates etc. although as you say it may be difficult to source a LHD car in the UK but you never know. Mark may be able to source details of any cars in the UAE too. Best of luck in your search and keep us informed.

The M3W Urban Fan Kit (SV250002) is surprisingly inexpensive. I paid £150 inc. tax for the hardware back in 2015. Labour for fitting the kit and flashing the ECU to provide automatic fan control was extra.
