Today it’s been a total day of polishing

Claying, polishing and waxing the Morgan

Also just finished polishing up a hot rod bonnet strap spring which I’m going to integrate into a bonnet strap for the Mog

I got these springs from the USA a couple of years ago after seeing them on a bonnet strap for a Model T hot rod in a book ‘The Art of the Hot Rod’

I have just had them nickel plated locally but unfortunately because of what the spring steel was coated with they came out very dull

Fortunately they polish up but it’s hard and messy work

The polished one is on the left

¿How do you plan to integrate those springs with the bonnet strap? It would be interesting to know, I'm totally obtuse with handy work... blush

I’m still cutting my pattern out and I’ll post a few photos in the coming days but I’m making quite a wide bonnet strap and having a leather bit that goes behind the spring attached to one end and unattached to the other end so the spring will be allowed to expand when the strap is tightened

Not with leather behind them

I’ve also procured some dark grey wool felt which will be on the back of the bonnet strap

"The polished one is on the left"

Thank you - but you really didn't need to say that!

What's the material and what do you need to do to maintain a shiny look? They look like fiddly items to polish.

Bloody fiddly

Once they are polished I don't think they would need any maintenance other than a wipe over with some Detailer occationally when I’m cleaning the bonnet strap as I’m polishing the nickel plating.

bit of a side track but I have a car that needs the clay treatment - SWMBOs |Smart Roadster. But I have never clayed anything or even seen some clay, back garden excepted.

So where do you get the clay, and how do you use it? SWMBO's car has some very light overspray on the froint where I was using a rattle can on something else in the garage and thats what I want to get rid of.
