First car was a VW Beetle where I was named on dads policy. I cost him an additional £60. My first solo was a Dolomite Sprint which cost me £250 TPF&T. Someone told me to take my IAD test to get it cut a bit. They put it up - go figure ?

Interesting. How did you find that out?

The guy I spoke to in the underwriting department of my insurer told me. It was visible to him in my file on the industry-wide database that underwriters use to prevent fraud and tailor underwriting. He was able to tell me the date/reg/insurer of my wife's claim - but not the amount. He explained that, statistically, people who are in the same household as a prior fault claimant have a modestly higher risk of future claims, so they reflect this. This may not seem fair, but their statistical correlations are all that matter to them.

When a pot smoking girl smashed through our front garden wall (in an old Corsa) even though I rebuilt the wall myself and didn't claim, because I reported the 'loss' our buildings insurance was loaded for five years.

Its interesting how many of us had spitfires as first cars. Mine was a 10 year old 1972 MK4 CNX805J. Had so much fun with that car despite the rust. led me to a 1500 then a GT6.

My daughter has just inured a Ford KA 2004 that we found with just 12000 miles. It cost £1200 to insure without a black box.
I felt slightly concerned that a couple of infractions could lead to a cancelled policy. She now has a dashcam that alerts her to the speed limit and sounds an alarm if you go near the limit.
