I've long been a user of Linguee.com for help with translations. DeepL.com seems to take it to another level. Thanks for the tip Heinz. I have just noticed a common feature with Linguee.com in terms of alternative solutions. If you click on any word in the translated text, there are many alternatives, and even the grammatical context of the word is adjusted when you select another term.

Even this excellent translating programme has got limitations: While leo.org translates „Vollpfosten“ to „dumbass“ (which is correct), DeepL states „full posts“ only.
Nothing is perfect.

I've just passed this on to my daughter (who is a professional translator) to check it out. I know that she already uses linguee a lot as a tool.
The job of a translator seems to be becoming more and more that of a proof reader.

It so happens I've just stumbled on a brilliant bit of automatic translation on the site of a local bar/restaurant up in the mountains. (For those who don't speak French, poncer means to sand)
