As retirement looms, I'd like to head off in the Morgan for some short and some long trips, at home and abroad. I admit I haven't scoured TM for such a thing, but I'd like to be able to click through itineraries that members may have recommended as suitable for pleasure trips. It would be a bit daunting to launch myself 'sur le continent' without knowing which are the recommended routes (for Morgans, particularly), and which to avoid.
I'd like to choose from, say, 5-days round Normandy (from Calais), or, 3 days round Cumbria (From Preston), or suchlike. If the right info was in the title, it should be possible to browse them using the TM format? Perhaps there'd be a google map, waypoints, points of interest, and even B&Bs. It was fun plotting our way round Scotland but then everywhere's nice there. I'm not so sure about other countries. Any ideas?

Stuart, there are so many places and roads to find with a Morgan that your retirenment will be way too short to do them all. I would try all of France and/or Italy before the Brexetiers build a fence around your island. The further you drive south, the more 🌞 you may find.

I can send you copies of the late Pat Kennet's chairman in the early days 3 runs in the lakes . They range from 75 -114 mile if my memory serves me well. But if you like empty roads you can slip out of Cumbria at the top and go into the bottom of Scotland and into Northumberland take a look at SAMYE LING MONASTERY ( BUDDHIST ) its in the wilds and I think they do B&B. ALL great mog roads .

Thanks for the ideas, I'll build something round that This is the sort of thing that would be most useful, if we had a library of these I could sleep at night

Like many people in this damp and cold island, I head south and over the channel if I can. Different culture, different language. I really enjoyed a trip to northern spain taking the ferry to either santander or bilbao - cant remember which and then into the Picos mountains
The Spanish dont waste their money on silly things like HS2 so their roads are mostly billiard table smooth and empty.
I did the last trip with Britanny ferries who laid on the accommodation
Doing classic le mans this year and mnaybe if time allows the north west 500 or whatever its called.

I'd say that on this forum, one who could give you some good tips would be Ken (who posts as uvk33n).
He's been all over the place in his Morgan.

If going to Normandy via Calais take the 'Route des deux Caps' from Calais to just north of Boulogne, It is a selection of sweeping corners and hills with stunning views over the Channel to Dover's White Cliffs. Unfortunately, at some time of the year there will also be less than stunning view of the rear of a Dutch or Belgian caravan!
And if you want a first night in one of the most 'Morgan friendly' hotels head for Hotel Hermitage in Montreuil sur Mer. But book directly with the hotel - they do a special deal for VinMog members, which including breakfast and secure parking is quite a bit below the bookings.com's 'guaranteed best price!
Of course, for the best Morgan experience VinMog still have a few rooms left for Le Mans Classic, though they have no more circuit drives left - they all sold despite their GBP175 price tag!

For an initial foray into France, you could do a lot worse than Picardy and the Somme region. Get off the main roads and the driving is excellent with loads to see, especially if you like military history - places like La Coupole and the V2 Blockhouse at Eperlecques are in easy reach, and Le Touquet still has a smidgeon of its heyday in its character. We stay frequently at La Ferme du Vert in Wierre-Effroy, which is only about 40 minutes from the French end of the channel tunnel. The owner, Thomas Bernard, is a great bloke and a classic car enthusiast - he has a very nice MGB GT and an original Range Rover. Most people blast straight through this region on their ways south, which means that it tends to be less crowded, and of course being so close to the UK there's no problem with language
