I think that it is to allow the sidescreens to fit behind the luggage. I seem to
remember having a rack with a removable bar for that purpose on one of my previous Morgans.

That’s certainly the case with mine, though and to not a Librands.

The removable bar does allow (help) the sidescreens fit on the underside of the rack.

Do you have a trad with a spare wheel ? The sidescreen storage does lift the rack a few inches higher, which causes a bit more restriction to the rear view once the suitcase is fitted. I removed mine and fitted a rack without the side screen storage.

However, as I saw marked in the rear view mirror of a D Type Jaguar, ' Warning - vehicles in the rear view mirror no longer matter'

Thanks I thought is was some sort of security measure to prevent sidescreen being stolen when the car is left unattended. Many thanks. Pmh44

There is a small hole and cowl/lock pin in mine, but anyone could just pull it out so not much of a security device. It’s a very small hole so even a very small padlock wouldn’t fit. I don’t even bother with the lock pin on mine, the bar is sprung so won’t fall out.

I have used a luggage padlock but now I just use a lock pin.
