Hi all,

If any of you out ther are running with the Empire kit, it might be worth checking the play in the rose joints.

I have just replaced all 4 as they had excessive play and were shot after 10k miles.

Have used Aurora 7/16” x 3/8” bore PTFE lined ones with zinc passivisation.

That should get rid of the slop and knocking at the front end.

Mill spec or general.
Do you have part number?

John.

Thanks for the warning about this and the part numbers information. I have had a check and they all seem good after 12,000 miles with no sign of wear. That must be down to the lovely smooth roads we have in Lincolnshire . rofl

The wear was front to back not across the car.

I put a small pry bar in the yoke on the aluminium bracket which showed up the movement.

So I whipped the pivot bolts out and they were as slack as a bag of n*****s.

This probably explains the metallic nocking when hitting pot holes etc.

After your warning about the rod end bearing wear I had a check for some spares and got 4 from Demon Tweeks at a bargain price. As the car is in my garage on stands I have replaced the old ones anyway, two are still like new and I will keep as spares. The other two do have slight wear side to side, so in the bin. They were both in the rear position LH and RH, although not sure if there is any reason for that? Another thing to add to the winter service list. Thanks again for the information on these, much appreciated.

In the US of A, McMaster-Carr has the appropriate rose joint in stock under part number 4475T13 at $18.63 each. Same spec as the Aurora units. My originals have about 10k on them and are worn enough to allow excessive movement.

If it's any consolation to those with the Empire Kit, I had to replace the rod end bearings on the "Comfort Kit" track rods last year as one of them was getting distinctly loose and the other wasn't perfect either.
