I am new to Morgans having sold my TR4A and bought a 70th anniversary edition which I am delighted with, however I do travel a bit and can be away for a month or three at a time especially during the winter months.(currently in Cambodia).

The car is fitted with a power outlet socket and I am wondering if this can be used in reverse to connect to a battery charger/conditioner?

I would have thought this would be fine - so long as you use a 'trickle' charger and don't try to put mega amps through it.

Obviously check that the socket is live with the ignition off....

I use a Ctek charger on mine (Aero8), but have a dedicated line/socket for the purpose.

On the Trads, many folk fit the Ctek trailing socket through the rear bulkhead and behind the seats.

Check out DaveW's post on this (or buy his book... coffee )

That is exactly how I do it on mine, Ctek charger plugged into accessory socket, just confirm it is live with the ignition off.

I leave the battery on my trickle charger all the time, not just when I am away. It keeps the battery nicely topped up, and it is one less thing to worry about.

Mine being a 1999 car does not have the auxiliary socket in the glove box, so I go though the rear bulkhead.

Might be an idea to check that the socket is fused and what the fuse is rated at.

I think others use this socket as power for mobile phone chargers and sat-navs.

Welcome Riverstar and congratulations on the 70th Anniversary, we have had our 70th Anniversary for just over a year now and enjoying very much. Ours is on charge all over the winter period through the rear bulkhead as other have suggested.

Hello and welcome! I use a CTEK charger through the power socket on my 4/4 and it works fine. Not foolproof though, I also put a Tek directly on the battery in the boot of my Classic Mini and up to now alls been well but this morning woke to a battery flat as a pancake. Probably new battery time.

Have fun.

After 18 years although I enjoyed the TR very much I wanted something that still gave me the classic driving experience without listening to every rattle and cough expecting a problem.

I had been thinking of a Morgan and noticed that Allon White near Bedford also sold other classics on commission so took the TR on spec and to try out some Morgan's and ended up leaving the TR with them which sold for more than I was expecting within a week. Two weeks later the money was in and coincided with the arrival of the 70th. Couldn't have been happier.

Returning to the UK in two weeks and looking forward to getting back on the road.
