I am interested on feedback from any electric car owners on how the regenerative brake systems act in the snow. When you lift the accelerator pedal to coast or use engine braking most of them start to harvest energy, does this cause any odd effects on the slippery surface of snow ?

I would have thought there would be all sorts of electronic wheel-slip gizmos in there so the main effect would be less harvesting of all that free energy. Interesting if anyone has any experience.

Driving the Tesla Model S 85D almost 2 years now I never experienced anything odd in the snow. Was 2 times in Austria in January for wintersport, we had snow, steep entry with frozen snow to the hotel. Everything went smooth.

I have owned two Lexus IS300h in the last 4.5 years and have never noticed anything abnormal. Both have been fitted with winter tyres from the end of October to the end of March and in conjunction with the "snow" programme (which I am guessing tames the torque delivery from the electric motor as well as making the throttle pedal action very slow) the snow traction and braking has been very good.
Probably the weight of the hybrid battery under the boot also helps.

It's generally ok on winter tyres. Yesterday on approaching home up a steep hill a car with horse trailer was jacknifed at the top with another car stuck in hedge as well.

I stopped, applied all the brakes and got out to help get the horse out and figure a way to clear the vehicles. After about 5 minutes my car slid down the hill about 200 yards. Bit of a Buster Keaton moment with me trying to run on ice to catch it before it collided with oil tanker at bottom of hill! I ended up sliding down the hill on my back. Fortunately the car caught the verge and that stopped it. No damage which was good!

Nobody filmed it on their mobile??
These days that is a rarity.
Good to hear no damage though. A lucky break.

Sounds like the bloke at work who went home parked on his sloping drive to watch it gently slide off the icy drive into the road while he was making a brew in his kitchen. Four carefully placed bricks stopped it happening again!

I did better today, got caught in a snow drift. Tesla is great as its 4wd and has winter tyres. Up to the point that the snow gets over 6 inches deep, then the completely flat underneath eventually surfs for a way then gets stuck!

Still, a quick tow from a tractor that also was having a few issues got me through.

I have a flight from Birmingham at 7am, so going in the Subaru 4wd as it has a bit more ground clearance!
