Although not a lover of coffee in any format, I will buy a frothy one when abroad and consider it the cost of renting a table and chair for an hour just to sit and watch the ripped jeans walk by.
The strangest coffee I ever had was in a little café in a place called Santana which is in deepest Madeira. It was one third coffee, two thirds spray cream, one third froth and a coating of hundreds and thousands !! winky

Here for a good time not a long time!!

Where I drink coffee the ripped jeans wait on.

And very nice they are too.

A cup of fairtrade instant from Aldi with a drop of semi-skimmed does me. Why can`t I buy a simple coffee these days which takes less time to prepare than I can cook a three course meal. Life is too short for these silly baristas (sorry I never could spell) to get their act together.
I must have been a trend setter in my school days as I got my trousers caught on a nail and ripped them across the left cheek. They laughed at me at the time - but little did they know they were witnessing the birth of a trend. Pity that folk don`t recognise me for the fashion guru that I obviously am.

If you think it is bad here - try Australia...it's a national pastime. Every building (more or less) has its own coffee shop, with supporters of each etc. One thing that is different is the lack of chains. Most (by far the significant majority) are locally owned/operated.

About 10 years ago sister-in-law came back to the UK for a months visit from Oz, everywhere we went she insisted on asking for a flat white and every time I told her that no one here knew what she was talking about.
Once or twice a month we go to Costa for a toasted sarnie or panini, SWMBO loves their hot chocolate and I normally have a latte, noticed the other day that flat white isn’t good enough and they’re doing them with coconut or chocolate (so isn’t that a cappuccino?)
As far as the ripped jeans is concerned it amazes what people will wear and pay more for in the name of fashion. I want to know who first thought “if we take some perfectly goods jeans and rip the knees everyone will want to wear them”.
The trend of young guys wearing their jeans half way down their backside is even more surprising as that had its origins in all male prisons as a way of inmates showing they were “available”. I pointed that out to the step-sons but they don’t care.
The one that really got me was a few years ago when young guys would walk around with one trouser leg (yes, only one) rolled up to the knee. I’m not sure what message that was supposed to send out but reckon it was “I’m a right pillock”!!

It's a great way of getting you to pay a lot of money and waste lots of time waiting while they ponce around behind the counter for ages - all you want is a hot drink it's not rocket science.

Very much new man area I think. You know the twee one on the Shed program with his clothes a size smaller than fits him laugh2.

Yep agree, we always request extra hot, I like it to stay warm while reading the paper. I think the coffee snobs believe 60-65c is the correct temp. Which is Luke warm. It’s fun to watch them roll their eyes. We like our hot drinks to be served hot.

Hi all,

I have been told by my live in fashion guru they are not rips but "designer" rips.
