Angle grinder with 80 grit paper on a pad. VERY quickly removes tar and leaves nice ventilation holes in the panel. Interesting patina. In practise, though, I use Autoglym tar remover. A clay bar can get them off too but elbow grease needed. Wash car, remove tar, rinse, clay, polish, wax. A satisfying couple of hours.

Another user of Autoglym Tar Remover. I used to flounder with tar removal until I came across that product.

Do you have to use a specific tar remover, or will any multi-porpoise cleaner do?

I use Methylated Spirit and then re polish the area, it works perfectly well and is considerably cheaper. We always have some in the house it's great for cleaning of White goods and removing sticky label deposits and lobsters.

How do you remove olive oil stains from a colour coordinated Polo shirt? If it's already been washed and has gone through a tumble dryer, then sorry to say you're buggered, Dave. The heat will have set the stain permanently. If it hasn't been washed yet, you could try rubbing Vanish or suchlike into it.

Seriously, it needs to be an oil based solvent, MPC.s tend to be water based, some may contain chlorine, or other surfactants, so not advisable.

I was once told that undertakers use meths on the hearse to keep the black paint shiny. Not sure how true that is.
