TVP are currently in the process of converting some, but not all, of their existing safety cameras to digital. These are housed in the smaller yellow boxes. The digital cameras have the advantage of never running out of film, unlike the old ‘wet film’ cameras, but they are still camera units that have to be loaded into the housing and connected. They have less camera units than housings so the one you passed may not be ‘live’. If it was, at 37, provided you have no current penalty points or previous speed awareness course in the last 3 years you’ll be offered a course rather than a fixed penalty notice. If you are the registered keeper of the vehicle and haven’t heard within 14 days or so, you’re likely to be OK.

Well, I haven't been to a speed awareness course for more than 6 years. I suppose the one I'm going to next month won't count.

We have a Fiat panel van motorhome conversion that has two replacement dark plastic windows in the back doors. We sometimes park it on a strip of our land parallel to the road, but on our side of the pavement - just the sort of place you would expect a speed camera van. It has a very obvious traffic calming effect.

The yellow ones on the side of the overhead gantries on the M25 are very real & live all the time.

As are the ones on the 4 lane section of the M3.
They seem to be set at 78mph, ie 70 + 10% + 1 mph, based on the speed of the traffic. Unless a lower limit is shown I set the cruise control at 77mph (GPS 75mph) and so far have not had a ticket....
