During the annual service today at the morgan dealership, the mechanic spotted on my 4/4 a fuel leak from the tank at high level (on the joint seam)

The good news is I’m covered under warranty, however is this one of these “they all do that” ???

My car has only covered 3,700 miles (dry miles) and less than 2 years old.

Does anyone know if the new tanks have improved ?

My 2005 roadster tank did exactly that. Nick

Perhaps it was the same tank, recycled?

Fairly common fault on all trads, of all ages.

I’ve lost count of the amount of factory tanks I’ve rewelded
They all do that sir.....

The factory tanks have an autogenous weld, meaning no weld filler material was introduced to the weld
This also means that the weld is not particularly strong and may not have adequate penetration

For road cars the best alternative is a stainless steel fuel tank from me or one of the other suppliers

When I fill the tank with fuel and release fuel the cap, I get a sudden rush of air, quite loud !

Could this could be pressure in the tank causing the all ready weak weld joints to fail.

Does anyone else experience this, or is it.... “they all do that sir”

Google "fuel tank venting". Some vacuum is usual, but according to the internet, cold weather can increase the vacuum (apparently).

I never ever noticed venting on any of my Morgan's at all.

I've never had a split tank or hose either during the 14 years of ownership and 3 cars.

I am not even 1 year into Morgan ownership, maybe I’m just unlucky!
