Has anyone driven the man .... or auto in either an aeromax or supersport? if so what your opinion on the two gearbox's

for driving long distances: autobox, then at least you got some place to put your left foot

the autobox is very obedient in 'manual-mode', in the mountains we always drove it in manual setting, on the Northloop I drove it in sport-auto-mode, kick-down is very fast

if I would buy a Ass besides the Max, then it would be manual, and fully equiped for Trackdays

My Max is auto and I drove an Aero manual

There is so much oooooooooommmmmmmmphhhh with the engine that I never feel short changed with the auto.

Just press the pedal and the box manages the situation. The manual mode is quite good

Honestly, I don t think an Aero either 8 Max or Sport is designed to be driven hard at all time. It is more a very fast GT and the auto suits the car character very well

I have a Series 2 manual and drove a Series 4 Auto.

I agree the 4.8 with the auto did go very well with the cars style and ground covering ability. It took the urgent edge off it and allowed a more pleasurable but still very quick pace to be achieved with less effort.

However given the sidepipes I am still sad enough to like bliping the throttle pedal on change down and using engine breaking due to the light weight.

I remain looking for a nice Series 4 Auto personally.

Having had both manual and auto Aero's to me it is no contest, the auto wins every time (never thought I would utter those words at one time!). As both Loiseau and Alistair say, it suits the torquey engine perfectly.

After the St. Trop event, we did the Routes des Grandes Alps which makes Route Napoleon look like a cakewalk. On suggesting to one of the combatants that it must have been hard work in his manual car, he said that he just left it in second and let the torque do the work in the corners and revved it in between.

Whereas with the auto in sport, it was easy to manually change between 2nd and 3rd, with even 1st on a couple of the serious corners. All at the touch of the gearstick easy and fast.

I'd have to agree with Aeromans comments on this having had both an auto and manual car.
The dynamics of the car in sport mode were great on those twisty bits, so much so that I was made to slow down as SWMBO who was feeling ill, while I was simply having fun. Roll on next year.

I can only mirror what the others have said. While the manual is excellent, the ZF auto available on the S4 Aero 8, the AeroMax and the Aero SS is utterly brilliant.

Considering the route we took , I have nothing but praise for how well the manual mode of the autobox works.

As per our conversation, it is down to personal choice but I wouldn't change mine if I had the choice to.

That was just one of the Cols that we did Simon, don't forget the famous Col de Turini and the many others between Menton and Embrun, see the route here.

The next day three cars headed from Embrun towards Switzerland, but after another hard mornings drive the ladies called 'time out' and so we headed to Annency and then Geneva after a really amazing drive.

We have traversed Route Napoleon more than several times, but we have never done this Route before and there is really no comparison. Roll on next year's Aero Club event so that we can drive it again...
