Michael, truer words have never been spoken. With your permission, I'm going to quote that as a badge of pride whenever I hear the question "But, why???" on my M3W again.
Go right ahead! I use it all the time as in: "I bought a British hand-made barely street legal race car! What was I thinking? Rational thought was not involved..."
What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.
I think you can argue race car, it's all about context: I bet it would have been a real winner at the chariot races in the Roman coliseum and dominant in the field for another couple of millennia.
Panic over and hopefully my back tyre problem is solved. it looks like it was an admin problem not a tyre problem. The incorrect tyre was shown on my invoice but the tyre actually fitted (many thanks Raphy for going up there today and taking photos for me) would seem to be the correct Blue Earth Yokohama in H speed rating.
Current back tyre is a Michelin Cross Climate which has been excellent in the cold, the wet and in the heat, including on the Autobahn at 35 degrees and hill climbing at Caramulo. Have also had a couple of Nokian Weatherproofs; they worked well, possibly not quite as good as the Michelin in high temperatures, good in the cold and wet but didn't seem to last as long as the Michelin.
I have the Michelin CrossClimates fitted to the Plus 4 and has them fitted to her Polo. Fantastic in the wet and excellent in the dry.
