Definitely one of our favorites.

When it comes to the rather mawkish Sinatra song I think Edith Piaf's song on a similar theme wins hands down

At 88 I try to not look back. But it is very hard. I often regret the little things I did not do that would have made Mrs. Button much happier.

Reminds me of a couple of lines from a Fred Wedlock song:

He sang his songs in a very strange way
Every string was tuned to A

He said I sing my songs quite free
of restrictions like rhythm, time and key
and interest laugh2

rofl

Brilliant

The most challenging jazz I have is a CD by Phil Minton (avant-garde jazz vocalist) called ‘Songs from a prison diary’

I’ve only listened to it once and I don’t think I got all the way through

Not for me.

Not a song, perhaps, but it'll have to be the Toccata from Charles-Marie Widor's 5th organ symphony. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtj300j129k (performed here by the great Olivier Latry).

I learned the organ at Rugby school. My teacher was a wonderful man, and a fantastic organist, called David Gatward. He always used to play Widor's Toccata at last chapel at the end of every term, so whenever i hear this piece it fills my heart with joy. It means freedom and the holidays to me.

As my funeral will be the "last chapel" of my life, this has to be the one.

Sadly, I was never proficient enough at the organ to master this piece myself.

That’s fantastic. I’d drifted away from Jethro Tull but this shows the genius of Ian Anderson. I think I’m back.

Saw Arthur Brown live in Bodmin in 1966.

There was fire everywhere for his stage show.

In those days is was quite a revolutuon.

Nowadays I guess Elf and Safety would not allow his show.

BTW he was fantastic!!

Mother has listed all the songs and music she wants at her funeral.

And the Running order of the whole service - and made sure we all know where this written dictat is so we do not go off piste!!

Nice one Giles, I have always enjoyed that piece of music.

At Sue's "do" last August we had two songs by Rod Stewart (because she always played one of his several CDs while doing the ironing) and to my complete and utter dismay I can only remember one:

In the middle of the service - Lionel Richie:

(and I wish I hadn't listened to that now gloomy )
