I hit a Big Buck in My +8 Bitsa. I was more concerned about the Deer than My front wing. I hit him in the hind leg and He was limping badly as He ran away. But, like You, I had no chance to miss Him. My wing was steel with minor damage but cracked the paint. The bumper was bent up quite severely. I am assuming Your wings are alloy. Might be easier and cheaper to replace the wing. I have knowledge of a "Metal Banger" on Vancouver Island who I am quite sure could repair your wing. But if alloy it stretches and the Craftsman must shrink it. I am over My head already. Your accident is a reason to have a Bumper/Blade.

Peter, that's exactly what my son meant. He suspects that the wing pushed the tyre for a very short but intense time, with all the possible consequences (suspension adjustment, crooshead shape). And after that, the wing bounced back. It was very close to the tyre after the hit. I will definitely have it checked thoroughly and let you all know what the workshop has determined...when I get an appointment.

I've had a quick look inside my wing and I can't see any distortion like you have there so well worth checking it carefully. Also the indicator light looks a little further back than mine.....could that have moved and caused the interior distortion?

Button, I was shocked inside, and I felt very much with the deer, which is a creature who was absolutely innocent injured by my driving or will die later because of it, even if it was standing solid on its four legs before running away. I've never met any living creature except mosquitoes. It was a very bad feeling.

Repairing that wing in Vancouver would be a tempting thing. Then I could visit your beautiful area again just like last August. Olympic Island with Port Townsend etc, which I only discovered because you gave me such wonderful travel tips.

That’s an easy repair
A couple of hours panel beating at the most
I had to make a similar repair to Andrew Thompson’s ARV6 last year, and whilst the wing needed paint, I’d planished the dent out well enough not to need any body filler

I’ve got to do the other wing in a week or so as he had another whoopsie at the end of last season

Nick, yes I fear that too. It happened last night in the dark and afterwards the beam of light on the road regarding the hitted right headlight was shifted clearly to the lower left. But maybe the light beam has changed also because the deer hit the headlight exactly and bent the adjustment screws.

Heinz, the deer may have done it on purpose

I know just what you mean. I was accelerating hard in the Ferrari along a nice straight country road when a farm cat tried to outdrag me, and lost. It shot off to the verge of the road but when I got the car turned round and drove back to where I hit it, I found it dead with its thigh bone sticking out through its skin. It didnt have a collar or any ID so there was no one I could tell, but it was upsetting leaving a dead animal by the side of the road.

It hit the mesh grille on one of the front bumper air intakes. Luckily the bumper is GRP so I could repair it myself. The grille - no more than an 8 inch sqare piece of back painted wire mesh was something approaching £200 from memory.

But it is an upsetting experience accidentally killing an animal. And unlike you I have shot numbers of birds and rabbits. Somehow thats different, maybe because you then eat them.

Heinz, as Budster mentioned, I had exactly the same thing happen to me. The same side as well. It is in the body shop right now. We decided to have a complete new wing fitted, which they have done and looks good. It's just waiting for paint now. I'm hoping to get it back in time for spring.

I will send you a PM with some pictures, before, then when I get it back, what it looks like. I think the cost is likely to be a couple of thousand pounds, as the rad. has a slight leak too as a result of the hit.

Hi Paul, thanks a lot for your support. I am of course very interested in your pictures. I hope my insurance covers the case. At least I did everything right and reported the matter to the police. Without their certificate, the insurance doesn't do anything.
