I suspect your area is big enough without coming up to Angouleme - but it does rather depend on what you like to do. If you want to see around 30 Bugattis in proper use, plus a vast array of other classics, and a lovely atmosphere, then perhaps hit Angouleme. http://www.circuitdesremparts.com/en/

But in terms of driving roads then it's probably not worth the detour.... The chatueaux are also spread more thinly than, say, the Dordogne.

I forgot - there is one chateau in the Dordogne with amazing gardens and worth a look (the chateau is really only a big house) - Château de Marqueyssac - have a google and you will see what I mean. Not as impressive as, say Chenonceau though (which I assume you hit on your Loire trip)

The trip in September is just about planned.

Belfast to Cork. Cork to Roscoff ferry.

First day drive to just south of Nantes for a night, then to La Rochelle for a night.

Two nights booked at Sarlat at the place you recommended Don, then back across for a couple of posh nights Bordeaux.

A night near Bergerac to finish off seeing Dordogne before a drive south to Mont de Marsan.

After that, a night in Biarritz before Pamplona (via St Jean pied de port - thanks Graham).

last night in Getxo before the ferry from Santander back to Cork and the road north home.

two exciting weeks!

Hi,
We're looking to go to the Medoc after our weekend in Classic Le Mans. We are considering going on the Royan/Verdon ferry, and then crossing again lower down the estuary from Lamarque to Blaye.
Has anyone used these ferries in their Morgan, I am a little concerned about ground clearance, the Blaye ferry uses sideloading.
Don't really want to travel around Bordeaux, too much traffic.

I've used a similar ferry across the Seine with no problems.
