When you get to my end of the life span you have three choices. Leave it for the kids, leave it for the government, or enjoy wasting some of what you have worked hard to accumulate. I've dealt with the first option, the second is to be avoided, so I am going to enjoy doing a bit of the third choice. Why not?

I think the same Howard. Madmax yes we will join Folkmog.

Good for you.

There was a beautiful Spirit 46 Yacht at the Antigua Classics in 2004 or 2005 called SKI 4 (as in Spending the kids inheritance).

Howard, your experience of all classic cars being rust heaps is I think based on old evidence. Today a car under say 10 yrs old is far more likely to be rusty than one 40 yrs old as by now most of them have gone through thorough restorations. The TR6 I owned a couple of years ago was totally rust free having been well restored (and proved totally reliable during its time with me). My current classic AH is also rust free on a new chassis and will I am sure, even if I do nothing see me out before it needs work.
I wouldn’t exclude a classic from your thinking, and it would certainly help avoid all that electronic gizmos, although your choices would be limited if you are after that much ooomph!

Howard
You are on a Morgan forum and asking people what car to buy? Given your requirements I would ask what is wrong with an Aero 8 or a Plus 8?

Personally I think 300hp per ton is an exageration that is not justifiable, but that is just my opinion. If you want tinkering why not get a good Plus 4, upgrade the suspension, and fit an Omex 2.5 litre motor? Alternatively if Morgan doesn't do it for you get a Frontline MG. Stunning cars beautifully built. The MG Abingdon Edition would fill your requirements pretty well.

Those Frontline GTs are just flippin' gorgeous. Love them to bits.

Hey Howard crunchie is on to it a seven , there is nothing like them when I get out of mine it's how I used to feel after a blat on a motorbike . Unfortunately getting in and out is not the fluid movement it once was , hence I will have to shift it on after 25 years to make room in the garage for the plus 8 . Also not sure I have the reactions I once had , but it won't be without heartache , much racing years ago and the look on passengers faces those memories remain . We run powerful Japanese engines in them out here.....

Perhaps a Caterham would suit together with an electric bath hoist modified to get him out?

Some of us run powerful Japanese motorbike engines in them over here. Mines got a 170bhp Yamaha R1, saves at least 80kgs, perhaps even 100kgs, and as we know Chapmans philosophy is as important today as it was in his day.

Given the difficulty you have in deciding, why not give up completely on ownership and spend the money on membership of one of the classic car rental clubs.

Something along these lines - http://www.classiccarclub.co.uk/fleet/
