Since last August we have been having fun going through the process of registering our 1993 plus 4 in France. The whole story is best left to another post, but we now have a French registered car. A photo of the document I will try to put in as a photo. The important items on the official document are that it is registered as a Morgan Four Four with power of 11CV.
This works as follows:
It is a four four because Morgan get type approval for the plus 4 as a variant of the 4/4 with a 1994cc engine.
The car was subjected to a 3,5 hour inspection at the french DREAL workshops, when many parts including the underside were photographed. Much info was supplied by Myself and Morgan. Finally after three months of considering the dossier a compliance certificate was issued, but with a power rating of 11. Knowing that other plus 4's were registered as 9CV, we questioned the 11. After a further month, DREAL admitted the mistake, and issued an Attestation. You have to smile.
We then embarked upon the registration, visited the Prefecture 9 times. Finally the registration was accepted, but the attestation was ignored! We were told at the Prefecture to accept the registration, and then start the process of amendment to a 9CV
So a we are now the registered owners of a standard four four of 11CV, and it is official. Perhaps a rare Morgan. We are now so well known at the Prefecture, that they may issue us with a loyalty card - 10 visits, and you get a free registration, ha,ha To be continued Clive

Wow Clive, nine visits is impressive. We have done two now, our 89 Plus Four in 2005 and our 2010 Roadster in 2016. Straightforward for the 89er and a little less so for the Roadster but due to other factors. Never the less only one visit each time, no Dreal, no photo's. It must depend on where you live as I have heard horror stories from other departments.

Clive this makes my tales of woe with the Austrian equivalent of DREAL sound like a picnic in the park. Congratulations on your perseverance and excellent result. My Morgan required only two visits to the Landesfahrzeugprüfungstelle - love these compound words - but my accumulated experience acquired through importing two other classics helped speed the process. If only the Brits had provided Decibel readings and weight on the registration certificate back in 68 life would be so much easier now.

My four-seater was first registered as a three-seater by the Norwegian authorities. It took just one extra visit to get it corrected, but later it turned out that the rear suspension was in fact too soft to carry four adults with luggage so maybe they were right. Anyway, with additional air springs the car handles four adults without problems.

Hah!
The Dreal (or drire as it was then called) felt unable to issue a certificate for my TVR, so I had to take it to UTAC at Monthléry to obtain single vehicle type approval.
They charged me €2000 to tell me that it had a noisy exhaust.

Clive,
I was going to register my M3W in France but reading threads like this made me decide I could not cope with the aggro. The French invented bureaucracy and they never let you forget it. Because the M3W only has 2 cylinders, it would attract a higher registration tax rate than if it had 4 or 6 cylinders and no I don't understand it either. It would be around €1,000 to register an M3W and then insurance in France is considerably higher cost than the UK.
It has taken my local mairie a year so far to fail to decide if the required 50M brush clearance zone around the house for fire prevention is in the horizontal plane or distance measured over the ground. My house is built at the edge of a 100m high cliff, so very relevant for me.

Not the first time Clive that I have heard of French bureaucrasy at this level and it conflicts with them having an economy that is as prosperous as it is. Could it be that they just dont like anything "out of normal" and in particular non French? When we still had a boat building industry they used to treat Brisith boats in just the same way and effectively banned their sale in France.
