No shame at all - if that’s what allows him enjoy his MOG then — well done!!! There should be no snobbishness about hoods - it’s whatever floats your boat!

Ok, since this has become a discussion about driving in the rain, I will state for the record that I drive with the top up most of the time, rain or shine (in winter). Driver’s side screen removed, of course. There, I’ve said it!  I’m with you Nick, I can’t see what’s so great about getting soaked through (me and the Mog) so if it’s raining the roof goes up, and the sidescreens !

Ok, since this has become a discussion about driving in the rain, I will state for the record that I drive with the top up most of the time, rain or shine (in winter). Driver’s side screen removed, of course. There, I’ve said it! Good for you! I rather like the hood up / no sidescreens look, but whenever I do it I'm always a little concerned about the windscreen. Once over about 50mph my hood tends to flap a bit, and I'm not sure what it's doing to the windscreen mounts and pillars. I have absolutely no qualms about putting the hood up whenever I want to. In the winter, I frequently prefer being nice and warm and snug. All very well on a bright dry winter's day to run top-down, but when the weather's like it has been over Easter I can't see much point in 'braving the elements'.

I prefer to enjoy it even in the snow with the hood up rather than not drive it.

Whenever I put the hood up (which is rare - see low mileage excuse) it feels like I’m in a tent. The main problem though is that being tall(ish) my vision becomes severely limited, in particular out of the sides where I often have to duck down a bit to get a full view.

I agree it is not the best experience. That is why I limit the use of it.

I agree it is not the best experience. That is why I limit the use of it. The Plus 8 screen fits the scuttle and hood up it keeps water out as long as I keep rubber lubricant on the seal inside the header rail. It does leak through the drivers door somewhere, water collects in a small puddle on the box section by my the seat. An old hand towel is essential. With the hood up it is a bit claustrophobic and noisy and the screen mists up, despite the screen heater. The heater helps, but isn't the answer. Fortunately Tarka has A/C and whilst useless as A/C it works really well as a dehumidifier/de-mister. The screen and side screens stay clear. The rear screen is not, but as the outside is covered with road muck it is of little consequence. Topless is best... (oh, err, Misses...)

Peter the water ingress is likely to be the leading edge of the door. I have the same on the Coupe. It seems to come along the front of the body and then curve into the front vertical gap and down and around the door.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Back to the original question about how far you have driven your Morgan. I have owned the Morgan for about 4 years. It came in boxes (don't they all?). After 2 years of assembly, including the engine and transmission, the chassis was driven around the block twice. Since then it has been at the body shop. Hope to have it back from the body shop by fall. Maybe then it will have more than a block worth of travel.

Average 6,000mls per year over 14 years and 3 different cars.
Mostly topless but the roof and screens go on if it's really wet.
It's about enjoyment not wearing a hair shirt. I don't agree with Tim's hypothesis though, I certainly do less then 500 in full weather gear.
