Hi. As my rear tyres are now coming up for 17 years old - still look perfect - I have been advised to replace them! They are on a 2001 4/4 - 195/60/15 - on chrome wire wheels. Do I need tubes and does anyone know where I can get them properly fitted and balanced in Derby please? Thanks for your help.

I would recommend Paul Harris Tyres. He has vast experience of Morgans and has all the necessary equipment for fitting and balancing wire wheels. Based near The Belfry at Sutton Coldfield, so not too far from you. He advertises in Miscellany and his number is 0121 311 1969.
No connection, just a satisfied customer.

Get them changed fast. They may look good but the grip is shot as is the flex of the tyre walls that you need for suspension.

And avoid driving in the wet until you have changed them.

Have a look at Blockley tyres - tubes and tubeless - they work very well and look the part with an older - looking tread. Reasonable price too. I`would imagine that Paul Harris could source and fit them if you don`t fancy a trip to the Cotswolds. Ditto the others - 17 years is too long even if they look good.

if balancing these try asking for the wheel weights to be put behind the wheel the car will look better for it!

I too have chrome wire wheels on my 4/4 and just had two new rear tyres fitted as required to pass MOT. Tread was fine but defects were present and not noticed by me.
No inner tubes fitted but wheels balanced as usual.
VERY much improved drive noticed as a result..
17 year old tyres must be replaced ASAP.
Do let us know what improvement is noticed and which tyre brand you use.
