The timing is brilliant.

This month I've written to Octane in response to Jay Leno's column in which he derides the XJ220 for not being the same as the concept car (it was actually better) whilst at the same time praising the Porsche 918 despite not being able to look at the mechanicals (should set alarm bells ringing).

Then this is announced out of the blue and... well, gosh. Jag had been advertising for hybrid engineers for a while but I presumed it was solely XF/XJ, not a supercar! And turbine engines as well, very old-school Rover. What an utterly wonderful concept, I hope it gets put into production.

Regardless of the fact the XJ220 turned out better than the concept, I am sure they will have done extensive feasibility studies on this to ensure that the speculators won't be disappointed...

I genuinely have not seen a car this exciting since... Well, the XJ220!

This one is beautiful! And the designer of this car is a certain Julian Thomson. His previous work was ... guess what?

Come on Morgan - Get this Lifecar on the road - We need more excitement!

It's a bonny car, with strong Elise echoes. The predicted kerb weight at 1350kilos is amazing.
The new Polo GTI is 1269 kilos dry weight(for example).

Now we are getting back to reality - another Real Jag.

I think Jaguar has done a great job of rebranding in the past few years. The new large sedan is more attractive than the BMW/Mercedes/Audi sedans it competes against,cheaper as well, the XF in R form is a sleeper, and the XK in R form runs with about anything out there and looks a lot better than most doing it. We own an XKR convertible and no issues after 16,000 miles...so if Jag made the exotic shown it might be a reason to
end the Porsche fixation!

I really hope they don't build it, and concentrate on the bread an butter which I think they are doing brilliantly right now.

XF is a pretty car (Even if it's too high at the back) and the new XJ always catches my eye though that might be because they seem to be like rockinghorse s*it out there in the wild...

To my mind Jag don't have a good supercar record, XJ200 and XJR-15 both are also rans in the 90's supercar stakes (and the market agrees with the relatively poor values for both despite them being limited production runs), For me you have to go back to the XK-SS for a true great which is from a very different time, place and ethos being a barely disguised Le Mans race car with a passenger seat, the likes of which you simply cannot build today.

Stick to what you're good at Jag - big comfy sporty saloons, and decently priced high performance sports / GT's and you might even get another customer. The nose treatment on this car is suppose to preview the new XK replacement, so it looks like it could be an interesting new car..

Andy, I couldn't agree more.

Even worse for me is the new proposed Lotus line-up - all the new concepts look like gradually increasing in size variants of the smallest car (or perhaps they started with the largest and then shrunk them). Like the new Ferrari 458 and the McLaren MP4, car designers really need to break new ground and stop rehashing a similar theme over and over again.

Agree on the 458 and MP4 - neither really moved the game on styling wise for me - in particular I expected a lot more from McLaren..
