Just looked at the government website on the law regarding number plates and I’ve picked out a few points that relate to conversations on this thread

1. Fine - nowhere can I find a reference to points off a licence
It only states a fine of up £1000 and MOT fail for displaying non conforming plates

2. Reading all the guff I am convinced that mine and PeterJ’s pressed metal plates are perfectly legal and confirm in every way just as the company claims

Because:

They have the correct lettering font
They are the right colour and made of a reflective material
The law does allow 3D lettering as long as it’s in the correct font and size
The makers postcode and BS ref is visible

Us lot arsing about with number plates is hardly the crime off the century. And things going pear shaped keeps you on your toes. I reckon some off us thrive on a bit of hassle !

Stewart,

it is interesting that the people we ordered them from, UK Metal Plates in London, are not the maker...that is a different Company in Coventry, at least from the post code on the plates.

When it is estimated that 1 in 12 of the 37 Million cars in the UK is driving around with a cloned number plate I would suggest there are better areas to be concentrating on than this handful of plates. As that is a real criminal activity that needs stamping out.

You boys are just trying to put a little joy back into your motoring by improving your pride and joy not defraud anyone.

It is lucky that you have access on here to the legal standpoint and you all are aware of the risks and that none are of a custodial nature.

The only relevant issue about the black and silver plates is the rearward safety aspect as pointed out by Simon and Dave.
