It would have to be a sharp police officer to spot that. We run trucks and none of our plates have a BS number on.
Wonder what BS stands for. Think I can guess. Should have BS AU then a number. Something to do with British Standards if my ancient memory serves me correctly

[ Your plate is illegal Peter, the font is wrong, there is no BS number or makers name or postcode The required font is Charles Wright, to my untrained eye and in comparison with the "Standard" plate the pressed metal plate font looks correct. The numbers and letters are the correct height and the spacing is correct. As Stewart has said, the makers name, post code and BS Number are etched into the reflective layer. I'd say they are compliant with the law, unless pressed metal plates themselves are not legal. The makers claim they are legal, this LINK takes you to their web site. Apologies Peter they were not visible in your pic

Pressed metal number ceased being supplied for new vehicles after 31/08/2001 when the current format was introduced because the standard for reflectivity changed from ‘reflex reflective’ to ‘retro reflective’. The surface coating used with the first yellow and white backgrounds presumably did not meet the new standard. As to the raised lettering itself, it is a not prescribed method of forming the characters in the current BS whereas in early versions pressed characters are specifically listed as being allowable. Bring back the single white/silver characters that Lotus used to fix to the radiator grilles of Elans and the like, relying on the black of the radiator opening to provide the contrast.

So those pressed metal plates Peter has fitted to Tara are illegal! Blimey! Naughty of the manufacturer to put the incorrect BS mark on them. Still, not likely that the police would ever challenge them. I’ll order a pair 🤓
