Seems crazy Howard but having never read Enid Blyton as a child, I was never aware of the origins of the word “Plod”. It seems quite a cheery name now!

We all grew up with Noddy, Big Ears and Mr Plod and no one gave it a second thought until the snowflake generation emerged.
Enid Blyton banned from schools and so it goes on.

Some of the derogatory marks I have heard for police officers have been downright disrespectful and abhorrent but Mr Plod is pretty tame really and almost an affectionate term.

I think we all have a lot of respect for these people keeping us safe in very difficult times.

If someone gets pulled with a vanity plate quite frankly I couldn't give a ----. No one's going to die.

My legal rear plate is well hidden under the rear bumper in the vain hope that a rear facing camera can't read it. But it is lit by diodes either side, so it's super bright and not lit by the 1980 vintage weak bulb.
I seem top remember last century one of the Continental European +8 owners had his rear plate mounted with piano hinges attached to a string by his steering wheel. Now that's naughty.

For the most part and unlike many othercountries the British authorities do fight fair with speed cameras in dayglo and mobile locations announced in advance. You could almost say that getting caught by a speed trap is proof of a lack of due care and attention. My beef is with the level.of speed limits, the way they are being reduced not increased and the level of penalties if caught

To be jailed for exceeding 100 on an empty motorway at 0300 is wildly excessive IMO

The word 'speed trap' harks back to the days when motor cars were still new. I hardly think a fluorescent yellow box on a pole is a 'trap' nor indeed is a white van with livery on..

Just to come back to the Enid Blyton character for a moment, the term refers to that person and that person only. To use the term in a generic way, usually with some sort of emphasis is lampooning anyone that is in the Police and, as many have said, disrespectful.

Why don't you simply say 'the Police'..? You don't have to describe them in any other way unless (a) you have an axe to grind, or (b) you have a baseball cap on backwards and wear a hoodie..!

Oh yes, we have to genuflect everytime we see a policeman/rozzer/scuffer/flatfoot/Polis/Popo.

I take the view that the police are only our servants and not our masters.

I once got stopped by a particularly unpleasant police officer. He showed nothing but ignorance and rudeness towards me, it cost him his job in the end. I still see him around town and remind him of the fact.

What am I supposed to do when I have a motorcycle stolen, track it down myself to the local travellers site and police refuse to retrieve it as the 'traveller liason' officer deemed it inappropriate to retrieve it? What should I have done, tugged my forlock and got down on my knees and humbly apologised for wasting their time?
