Just recently l got stopped by Police using a mobile radar detector. They clamed I was doing 129kmh while I had the impression it was much less. Well, I had passed a slow Benz who was blocking my road so maybe I accelerated more than absolutely necessary. As I was drunk I did not start an argument with the officer but payed right at the spot and saved him a lot of paperwork.
Are those the stories people want to hear? (It actually happened in the late 70‘s)

Where in Wiltshire?
I am a Parish Councillor and we were recently told by the Police Liaison officer that Wiltshire didn't have functioning speed cameras other than on the M4 and A303 and they couldn't afford to run the camera vans. All resources are directed to enforcing 30 limits in urban areas.
Swindon is different, they do have functioning cameras.

I got caught in Wiltshire at 72 in a 60 so as this was 20% over or less then I could as I had a clean licence opt to go on a course which if you then do not have another infringement in 3 years - phew - never get the points on your licence!
So I did, got a nice keyring with a 30 speed limit roundel on it I use for my Mog.
Fortunately I was overseas for the next three years! Looks like a nice thing they got going in Wiltshire a load of 36ers in 30 limit types on the course I felt like a real criminal but I drove over there on a nice day in the Mog so got something out of it!

The camera was on the gantry that the speed limit sign was on. It changed from 40 to 70/NSL a hundred yards before I got to it. I passed under it and then the camera at 70.
I wonder how the law is written for electronic changes of speed restrictions as the return to NSL/70 would have been done on the gantry behind me and in front of me. It was not one coming out of roadworks.

Tesla speedometers tend to read the exact speed!

we have one of the early non digital round speed cameras at the bottom of our road. It regularly flashes butdoesnt have any film in it. But it is sensibly sited just outside the local infants school - it would be saving lives if every kid wasnt delivered there by mummy in an suv. Including, believe it or not, a woman who lives literally 100 yards from the school entrance.

I guess the thing that really irritates about this speed camera flashing me, is that I was driving sensibly at the same sort of speed as the rest of the traffic - the situation in which a patrol car would have just ignored me. Instead yopu now have to hunt for speed limit signs all the time because limits and road conditions / risk / design dont correlate at all. Judgement common sense, reason and safety doesnt come into it. Its all about legality and revenue.
And with different road signs at intervals of 50 yards or less I defy anyone to see , process and react to every one of them. Its just clutter.
One of my nearby local authorities has gone round reducing speed limits everywhere because they say they cant fund road repairs!

For me the missing part is engaging the people with advice on what the new range of devices do and the rules around them. If the police and extended agencies were to run a half hour program in association with some TV journo/car person (Tiff or even Jenson) as part of the safety campaign I would watch it. Show me what they do and how I am not going to escape. Then if I have any sense I will simply not try. There will not doubt be some cretins who still take the p__s but thats their issue.
Just like the speed awareness courses use education to try and reduce bad habits I think this should be part of the new tools deployment process. Engage and educate.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Yes that's the message they have to get across that they need to be perceived as life savers and not revenue generators, quite a simple message I would have thought to convey.
Bearing in mind there are people that will refuse to listen.
