It’s a wonder it could stay afloat as the metal-oxide finish would be like a sieve. A Viva - it would only have been rust patches held together by body filler anyway!

Sadly it happens quite often on that road. Even the locals get it wrong at times.
The tide comes in very quickly there. Averaging a couple a year but the larger cars are enjoyed and publicised of course.

I was out fishing many years ago now about three miles from land and came across a lesser spotted vauxhall viva bareley afloat.It had been abandoned on pendine and the tide took it away.I tied a buoy onto it and informed the coastguard,fair chance its a bit rusty by now.
Em Em...I have heard some fisherman’s tales but this one takes some beating! What bait did you use?   My first car was a Bedford HA van...based on the Viva. Transverse front leaf spring and leaf on rear too. A natural precursor for a Morgan...

I can still hear the screams. The report says the tidal road at Aveton Gifford. Imagine the scene having ignored the warning notices! “Let’s park here and go for a nice walk by the estuary “ “Oops”

Came across several of these contenders for the “Darwin Award”.
One involved a badly flooded road in mid Wales.
Conversation went roughly as follows.....
Mr Darwin winner ( DW for short....I want to report a flooded road and my car is stuck in the water.
Me....what road are you on, sir.
DW.....from Xto Y. My BMW is deep in water and engine stopped.
Me...Anyone hurt?
DW...No ....I am alone.
Me...just checked and that road was closed a couple of hours ago.
DW...yes, I saw the sign.
Me...so you ignored it?
DW Yes, but that doesn’t matter. What about my car?
Me...are you in the RAC/AA/ other recovery?
DW....yes but I thought you could sort it for me.
Me...you need to contact them, sir. The road is likely to remain flooded for a few hours due to the river breaking its banks and it is still raining. We are dealing with a lot of emergencies at the moment.
From this point DW became a bit belligerent and demanding.....
DW...I pay the wages of you lot. You should sort this.
Me...no, sir. We are over extended with serious calls and you are able and capable of dealing with it yourself. It is likely your engine has blown due to sucking in water.
Call ended.
I have edited the language used by DW.....

Bob...it was sometimes hard keeping calm! The off-line comments were sometimes fruity!
Graham, we had film cameras in a few times and the series is apparently being repeated on some channels. I did not have my beard at that time!
