Otherwise known as the Royal Flying Doctor Service 90th anniversary Vintage Aircraft Pilgrimage. Currently in Cloncurry where the Flying Doctor was founded and tomorrow we fly the route of the first flight - the 85 miles to Julia Creek - and then to Mt Isa where it all ends.

24 vintage planes, 1,500 nautical miles so far and about 1,000 still ahead to return to base. I'm sharing flying and costs with a mate in his 1952 Auster J5F. My Auster still undergoing a long rejuvenation. Having a ball.

There's a pic on TM-img.com but can't get it to upload from the iPad. Lots of stuff for plane buffs and absolutely no Morgans, just their aviation cousins, if you google RFDS pilgrimage events.

Good luck. A great place Mount Isa. I understood it is the world's largest city area wise but a population in the twenty thousands all there for the mining. My last company had a small base there & if you asked what was there to do at weekends you were told drive to Townsville. I think that was 1500 km one way.

Paul yes that's the one and thanks. Now in Mt Isa, the end of the pilgrimage and we've been celebrating. This morning we flew the route of of the first ever flying Doctor flight exactly 90 years on and the whole town of Julia Creek was out to meet us. Tomorrow we begin the long flight back. Tired but happy and the Auster running sweetly. K

John the Isa is a strange place, and yes, very isolated. It's a massive mine with a small city attached and people live in the shadow of the slag heaps and giant towers. Great wealth has been generated from these mines.
