I have run a small windows computer hooked to the ECU permenantly for the last 40,000 miles. I have just popped out and had a look at the logged data and its showing a peak oil temp of 283F which was sustained for 1657 seconds. Its usually peaks around 238F which from what i read is withing the oil spec. I have no oil cooler and run a stage 1 factory exhaust. Im pretty sure this peak was reached with this exhaust and not the standard factory as I did it going up in a long mountain pass in Switzerland stuck in heavy traffic doing about 15MPH so it didnt run the fan. If you need anyting esle jsut let me know, engine is now showing 1,200 run hours with 4,900 starts

On a long run today a cylinder head gasket has blown.
I've not seen the pipes glowing red but my engjne is definitely not well. Any advice would be much appreciated. All parts are standard as far as I know.

Rik, If you have yet to deal with the MASSIVE restrictions in the stock exhaust, then I might suggest that you address this issue quickly, lest you risk more engine damage as a result. There are gazillions of threads talking about the stock exhaust design, but in summary MMC plug it up something rotten and the exhaust gases simply cannot escape the combustion chamber quick enough. Heat build up is huge, detonation is everywhere above 4000rpm on a half decent throttle and the culprit is primarily the exhaust baffles, and to a lesser extent the restrictive CATs stuffed into the end of the header pipes. An easy fix and quite simply the best change (I hesitate to call it a ‘modification’, as this is more a vital engineering fix to preserve engine longevity) you can make to the car bar none.....

Hi Rik

I have a 2012 car which was prone to pinking at higher revs under load. This was a commonly known issue and sometime later on a new ECU map was made available which i believe changed the ignition advance at those conditions.
I was sent the file by dealer and i self installed using the Protune Software. Only takes a few minutes to upload to ECU
Pinking has gone away since then.
My exhaust has not (yet) had the bafflectomy but i do have the S&S stealth air intake kit which in itself was a positive move.

If you use Protune you can see what file is installed. Under comments i think?

thought two..... have you had the o2 sensors checked? as there have been some requiring replacement on older vehicles and could lead to "strangulation" and increased fuel usage

Open the exhaust, or get the AR Stage 1 and maybe best of all the Garage 56 exhaust.

Mine runs very hot, a 2019 and is hard to start. Not changed exhaust yet as back at dealer. Lots of faults. High fuel temp one of the fault codes. I hope it goes back to Malvern as it is sick in many ways. Un drivable. 650 miles and was back at dealer for sticking throttle plus broken brackets. MMC then say 9 days out of warranty!

The early cars were 24 months or 24K miles . I thought later cars were 30 months so should be in warranty.

MMC and Warranty should not be spoken in the same sentence. When my dealer parted ways with MMC my car had an oil leak at the front crank pinion. The leak was there when I took delivery and was noted by the dealer and then they and MMC parted ways. The leak continues.

I have tried twice to fix it yet all I managed to do was lessen the leak. I have heard nothing from MMC since the nearest dealer is over 2 days hard drive to get there.

S&S was helpful in advising on best methods for changing that darn seal. Next year I might have another go at that seal since MMC is silent.
