End of last season I had a Stage 1 Kit fitted to my 2014 M3W with about 15.000 km.

Engine is running much better, I am very satisfied with the performance characteristic of the vehicle now.

Increased although ist also the noise level, I have to wear earplugs for every trip.

I am looking for some way to make the exhaust a bit more quiet, I also do not want to be checked by Police.
Has anybody any experience quieting the stage 1 exhaust?
Are db-killer systems any good? How much db do they kill?

Any advice please - thank you in advance.

Karl these sites have a few ideas, I'm not a M3W owner so don't know the details but this gives you some idea of what is available until one of the guys that has one comes along.

I have a stage 1 kit on my 2017, and don't find it objectionable at all, except perhaps during "spirited acceleration" when it can get a bit loud. Modulating the throttle seems to keep it in check when needed. Are you more concerned about noise at cruise, or in-town? I don't wear a helmet, and find the BB and wind noise more than balances out the pipes.

You might try fitting some deflectors to direct the exhaust more down and to the outside, but with the flared pipe ends on the Stage 1 pipes, it would be a challenge to fit something on the end.

truckin-on, thank you for your reply.
Yes, I try modulating the throttle and this helps very much. But since switching to stage 1 I often get this "OMG, another unbearable loud biker!"-glimpse from bypassers in-town. And my ears develop after about half an hour of driving w/o plugs a tinnitus (I think this is the proper expression).
On tour the BB, wind and the pipes fight for "who is the loudest?", most likely stage 1 is winner.
By law I have to wear a helmet and you are right, the stage 1 pipes are a bit shorter than stock and therefore you sit closer to the pipes' ends. For me everything is perfect when I wear earplugs, but police might be attracted - I already had an unpleasant encounter with the stock pipes mounted when the M§W was rather new.

A DB-eater (or db-killer) or decibel slayer might reduce the sound by 3 to 5 db or more, I hope, therefore I am investigating.

Yep, fit DB Killers
Discreet as they are inside the exhaust and they will reduce the volume.

Just make sure they are fitted tight because if they rattle that noise will annoy you far more than what you have now

Hi
I've tried Vance and Hines Quite Baffles 60mm dia in my MMC stage 1 pipes and they do indeed quieten things down a bit however they knock the performance back as the outlet diameter is smaller
Probably a better bet are the G56 pipes with no restrictions....

Yes, I will look for a tight fit, thank you for the advice, WarBird

Hm, as long as torque on the low side is not affected too much I am fine. Its a matter of physics that any restriction cuts down performance again. Maybe I better look for a means to measure the volume of sound before and after. I will look for Vance&Hines Baffles after my vacation, thank you PaulR.

There are some decent free aps for a smartphone that will give you a comparison at least. I use "sound meter" on my SG7 Android - nice little tool. I don't know that I'd trust the absolute measurement, but for relative comparisons it's useful.
