I have a squeak from the rear passenger side wheel. It increases frequency with speed and vice versa. It is not always there but is sometimes louder than at other times. It is worse when I turn right and is less/goes away when I turn left. It immediately stops with a light touch of the footbrake but not when applying the handbrake.

My Morgan agent has checked the wheel bearing, the brake shoes and slackened off the handbrake cable, and inspected the suspension, all to no avail.

I have recently done a 2,000 miles trip, half at high speed, without noticeable effect on the noise.

Has anybody any ideas?

Have you checked whether the inside wall of the tyre is close to rubbing on anything.
I had similar symptoms on my 4/4 and it turned out the tyre could just make contact with the exhaust pipe under certain conditions, mainly on right hand bends.
Don't know how your exhaust is routed but the tyre could be close to something else if not the exhaust.
Don't know why it would go away when you touch the foot brake though.

Have you checked that the spinners are tight on your presumed wire wheel. Had the self same squeak recently. Couple of hefty bangs with the supplied lead hammer and problem gone.

If you look on the MWS website (the supplier of wire wheels to Morgan) they suggest a couple of light taps after hand tightening and the direction of wheel travel will tighten it up. Watch old films on Youtube, every one I have ever seen at Le Mans etc there is a big hairy Italian knocking ten bells out of the Ferrari wheel spinners.

I know which one I trust!

Hi

Thanks - I will check these things.

My Morgan agent is given to tightening the spinners very much, so much so that, on one occasion, it took me three-quartet of an hour to get them off. I understood that if they are too tight it can distort the stub axle.

Maybe to much side load has been applied to the bearing with over tightening?

That aside No delaminated brake pads I take it?

The brakes were delaminated when I last took her in to be looked at.

It is quite possible that the spinners have been overtightened.

I had, and still have, a squeak... it's been partially improved, but still there.

It was found to be (probably) two things. An exhaust bracket touching (when suspension compressed) and secondly a rubber pad not working between the body and the chassis. We have different cars, but might be worth a check.

Pillars all nice and lubed I take it? Find some where with space and safe to do so, while inducing the noise with the turn lightly apply the brake pedal and see if it alters.

Thanks again. The pillars are well greased. I will check out the other suggestions. On the straight the noise completely goes with a very light dab on the brakes. Braking efficiency is unaffected.

Hello, I'm currently have a issue with my 2013 3W Morgan it is making a awful loud squeaky sound. I'm not sure what exactly it is but the dealer said it might be the Harley-style cushion drive between the engine and transmission. It would cost $2,000 just in transport to get it to them and back. I am trying to find someone closer to Newark, Ohio to work on it but that's not working out. I am even debating about doing the work myself but I am not finding any manuals or schematics on the vehicle. If your guys know anything about this that would help it would be greatly appreciated.
