When I got my +four ,the dealer said that people often remove the extra high level stop light for a more 'classic' look. Ive just dont that, but would think it reduces visibility considerably. ANy thoughts?
nothing matters very much, and hardly anything matters at all.

Left mine on on the '98. But, as soon as you put anything on the rack it obscures the standard "cobra's head" light. The rack fitted by Tink's previous owner (sidescreen stowage under rack) was tall enough to partly obscure the light. The '76 doesn't have one, though it could do with a rear fog light in some conditions!
Cheers,

I saw a 4 seater recently which has an extra light installed behind the spare wheel , which I assumed was a 3rd brake light. You could only see it if you looked hard, but I would imagine it was quite effective

ANy thoughts? This what most of the people do. I had the same idea but I'm not sure I'll remove it, the fact is that a MOG is very low so I believe that the "Cobra" is not a luxury, especially in bad weather. I made 700 kms with hard rain and I think it's a nice thing to have the HLBL ... BUT it's so damn horrible that it kills the back of the MOG I am still between both positions: keep it or leave it. BTW I dunno how it works elsewhere but in France if the car has been sold with it you can't remove it, if the policemen stops you you have a tax to pay.

Some people have installed an LED lamp behind there spare wheel, it shines through the spokes, and is mostly invisible until it is used. ooops looks like sawman has just said the same.

On a horrible wet dark night with poor visibility it increases the chance of being rear ended. It also gives the insurance company something to argue about if they know about it. So that's the payoff. A nice horse-shoe LED round the wheel rim would be OK, but I can live with the cobra.

Hi All, You are right, as soon as the car have been certified, you cannot change anything. You can get a fine if you change something. Remember in France, the third stop light has to be set at least at 90cm high. The only problem is when you have a luggage on the rack you can experience some trouble with the police because the third stop is hidden. A lot of people don’t like the cobra, but I don’t hate it. I find it rather … round and it goes well enough with the car. Of course if I could choose I would prefer without, but it is a detail. BR. Daniel.
