Yes - same with me - good advice on a Sigma or similar - but disastrous on a +8!! I always set the trip meter to 0 when filling up and know to get it filled again at about 400miles.
Although the gauge is a rough guide I never completely trust them on any car.

Mine was a pain so recalibrated it. Has worked like a normal fuel gauge ever since.

might be worth a look at the voltage stabiliser which supplies the fuel and temp gauges. Not sure of the years it was fitted in Morgans but is quite common with the older Smiths gauges. If it is stuck it will provide full voltage to the gauges which may differ with engine running or not.

A lot of good input here and a few things I'm going to try.

One more question though.

How can I tell if the tank is really full when the pump clicks off?

I have heard that some cars click off early due to pressure build up.

I always fill very slowly ( I was asked the other day how big the fuel tank was given the time it was taking to fill up) but I'm never convinced it is really full as the gauge only reads 7/8 full.

If you fill beyond the first click, it may trigger the engine warning light if any fuel gets into the evap system, so I don't go beyond the first click.

With the filler flap at 12 or 6 o'clock, it should fill normally.

My Plus 4 shows full (when filled) but it drops rapidly to 3/4 and then much slower to 1/4.

Last year I did something I don't usually do - I got caught out a long way from any fuel stations, and ran for over 30 miles with the warning light on.............
