My '76 used to unscrew the knob (button) on the handbrake quite regularly. The spring below it would then send the button off into a (usually passenger) footwell. Eventually a tiny dab of Locktite stopped further escapology.

It would be useful if you could have a close look at one off the car in the chassis shop G and perhaps take the odd photo.

Hi Guys
The handbrake lever on my +4 is rattling like crazy, at around 3000rpm there is a constant loud rattle from the button rattling against the shaft.
I have wrapped a small piece of black tape around the shaft which has quietened it a little but not removed it fully.
Does anyone have a better fix\insight I haven't thought of?
Rylan If you like to pm me your email I have the parts list (pdf format) and assemblies for your model including a good exploded view of the complete handbrake assembly which you are welcome to. Just converted a screenshot to png. This may be of help.

Cheers G. I know that they aren’t made up in the chassis shop but you can at least get a good look at one off the chassis 🤓
Richard.....thanks for the diagram. Looking at it I’m assuming the rod that the release knob screws down onto, slides within 2 to just bear down on the pawl 5. And that is under tension with the spring 3. Something must stop the button and rod from popping out the top!

John, the way I see it 6,7,8and 9 pin the pawl arm so it can pivot around that point and as the spring is attached to both the rod and it the vertical movement is limited by the tension in the spring.

I just can’t see the connection of the rod to anything other than the top knob and just bearing down on the spring loaded pawl. I wonder if the rattle is caused by that spring failing?

Well I persevered with unscrewing the knob today, turns out is does unscrew fully,
The only anti rattle device fitted is a small cube of foam which fell apart to dust as I removed the knob, all screwed back together without a problem,
Will see how much it rattles on the way to Penshurst tomorrow!
