If we talk about a third brake light for everyday use, which is indeed concealed by a suitcase but does not irritate the nice shape other than using a cyclop brake light I found Jochens solution very good. It is LED and does not need too much additional current.
Here are some pics.

Oh, dear..

Another driving God. Just what the world needs..

Sorry if I came across like that, but doing the RoSPA course has helped keep me out of trouble.

My 1986 car didn't have a high level light as standard, so I just made a couple of simple alloy clamps to hold an LED light strip onto the luggage rack, where it's visible regardless of luggage.

I took the the third brake light off of mine when I bought it, and have never felt vulnerable to traffic behind me, it's all down to observation and making sure you always have an exit plan.

As over 60% of RTCs involve some sort of rear end shunt.....exit plans are not a lot of use.(figures are about 7yrs old)

I've been shunted off my bike x2 at the same junction in the last few years

I've had a brand new car written off by a rear end shunt.

It's NOT your observations to be worried about!

Says a grade 1 police driver since 1985.
food for thought
I've fitted a third brake light cop
but hey its a free country
enjoy your drive cheers

Mind you what use are they when automatic pilots are in charge

Some people remove them - but I didn't like the idea of being in a low car with a foreign lorry driver behind me - anything that would improve their chance of seeing me was welcomed!

When I had my Roadster I made up a light that would then fit on the suitcase - total cost was about forty quid.

Why would you be more worried about a foreign lorry driver behind you than a UK driver?
