Fortunately, I have Bill Fink working on it. he is replacing the fuel pump and filter (overnighted from New England Morgan). He has been talking with others about this, including England, and he suspects it could be the fuel lines being too close to the the hot cylinders. He is heat wrapping them and moving them away from the engine. It makes sense as apparently the gas is going to and from the engine, looping to the fuel pump. If the gas gets too hot, it can slow or stop the impeller. This might be the issue that has plagued many folks. We'll see. I do know i have the best guy working on it. Will www.m3wroadtrip.com It would be great if that is the problem and there is an easy fix. I’d be interested to hear what some of the mechanically minded people on here (Rog, that includes you as the experienced fuel pump fitter on the Albert Ball Memorial trip this year!) think.

Observing Roger working on the pump that failed on the euro 4 car during the Albert Ball trip that one was completely dead as soon as the new unit was plugged in it worked so was probably another issue other than hot gas.
Would be worth disassembling a failed pump to see whats actually gone wrong I guess, debris, burnt out motor, valve failure etc.

I do not imagine it is hot gas (petrol) returning to the tank causing the fuel pump failures. Any hot fuel returning to the tank will be cooled by the volume of petrol in the tank any way, over an extended period the fuel temperature in the tank will obviously rise a small amount, it would be easy to check with an infrared temperature gauge after a long run.
The fuel pumps are from a Land Rover Discovery and would have undergone extensive hot weather testing.

I seem to remember that some time ago someone concluded it was swarf/debris from the tank causing the failures .

Talked to Wil Freeman last night. He is optimistic that the problem has been solved. Hoping to join Him for a few miles thru Western Washington.

Heat can be an issue but I’m not sold that the fuel gets hot enough to damage the pump. I was moving the M3W from Arizona to California about mid May of this year. I stopped for fuel just outside Blythe, Ca (right on the Colorado river) and all had been fine to that point. The temp was over a 100 degrees F when I left Phoenix and 105 F at the gas stop. I was there maybe 10 minutes and then I fired up to leave, engine started normally but as I headed up the ramp, it cut out for a second, picked up again, cut out again and then repeated the sequence a third time. I figured I was toast, mentally cursed the Morgan and prepared to coast to a stop and call AAA. At this point it kept running... I figured “what the heck” and accelerated onto the freeway. It never so much as hiccuped for the rest of the trip (another 200 miles). Upon arrival, i discovered that the bevel Box had gotten warm enough to puke some oil out the breather, never had that happen before! I wish Will the best for the remainder of his journey, he is currently running through a really pretty part of the country (grew up in Oregon).

That sounds like overfilling the tank I have had exactly the same symptoms a few times, and occurs if you top off the tank.
