Some people remove them - but I didn't like the idea of being in a low car with a foreign lorry driver behind me - anything that would improve their chance of seeing me was welcomed!

When I had my Roadster I made up a light that would then fit on the suitcase - total cost was about forty quid.

Why would you be more worried about a foreign lorry driver behind you than a UK driver?

It is said that 90% of RTCs on motorways involve Foreign HGVs

Tim H,

Your solution is very smart but does it satisfy the height regs?

Here for a good time not a long time!!

I thought the idea was to elevate it well above the standard brake lights more into the followers eyeline, this would appear to be less than 6" above the standard ones.

Yes, but I wanted a solution that I didn't have to dick about with when i had luggage on the rack. The way I see it, it's better than nothing, and people who have followed me have reported that it's very visible.

This is the third brake light that I knocked up. it's a motorbike LED which attaches to the luggage rack using badge clamps (scooter size as the luggage rack bars are smaller than the badge bar). When I don't have the suitcase I remove the stainless plate and attach it directly to the rack, it looks better that way but still gives me a high level brake light

This is a solution from Revolutions in Perth.

If a suitcase is on the rack, the light is raised. If not, its lowered.

When I'm not touring the luggage rack and light come off the car.

Is this because you don’t drive the car when you’re not touring or do you believe there is nothing to be gained by having the light when not on a tour?
