Removed the exhaust for polishing and noticed the brackets are different from left side to right. Left side has socket head bolts, right side has fixed in place flat heads. Socket heads look like maybe they are later additions. Anyone seen similar? Do these brackets have known issues?

The flat heads are stock. The socket heads look to be an addition, i.e. a repair.

If I recall the brackets on both sides are the same exact distance from the front. The left side exhaust will fit easily and just drop in place while the right exhaust will be a struggle. The right cylinder is about a half inch behind the left and that is the problem.

Which side has what?

The only problem I have seen is the bodywork attachment pop rivets coming loose below the rear mount.

I cut 10 mm off the length of the right hand pipe at the front where it clips to the header, this gets the rubber mounting bolts in line with the brackets

<sigh>...figured out why the socket head bolts had been added.

It would appear some rather dodgy body work has been done on the left side, and due to thick filler in the rear silencer mount area, the stock bracket bolts were not long enough. Not sure why the front mount has the socket heads. Also, there is what appears to be a nasty glued-on patch to the front of the front mount, probably for a tear.

I have some experience with alloy body work (Austin-Healey center shroud) and know how difficult it can be to properly shrink and straighten stretched alloy. In extreme cases cutting out a 'slice' and welding up the seam is called for. But these cars deserve better than banging away on the inside then slathering on thick filler.

Really disappointing. At least the respray part of the work was done well as when checking light reflection on that side there is no indication of a repair.
