I'm trying to establish the correct (original style) mounting for a 1967 +4, for a rear number plate.

Seen lots of photos of the rear end of the car but what is deemed original?

Should anybody kindly have an photo in aiding my request, would be delighted to see.

Depends what the original purchaser specified. The usual fitment was with the number plate valence turned down but you could also have them with the numberplate valence turned up for extra ground clearance.

Thank you for your reply.

The original car was shipped to the US so it had the larger / squarer back plate on the rear, and on top of a full length bumper.

She is now in France so the plates are the same size as the UK, and although I could mount on top the bumper with a "amazon plastic" number plate holder attached on 2 metal pillars (originals), I was hoping that the original car were attached under the bumper.

It will fit under the rear bumper but be aware that in certain circumstances, it will scrape on the ground, speed bumps spring to mind.

I have a 1967 plus 4 originally exported to the USA. I have oblong black and silver die pressed alluminium plates front and rear. The rear one is filled on the valance behind and below the rear bumper and has bottomed several times skurfing the bottom edge of the plate. I am contemplating changing the rear plate to an oval one and attatching it to a self designed mounting plate that I can fix using the spare wheel securing bolt. This way it will be out of harms way, be more visable and will lend itself to incorperating a third high level stop/rear light. PS I know it will be bit of a phaf when removing the spare wheel but think perhaps the advantages will outweigh the disadvantages. Thoughts?

You have very kindly put my mind at rest regarding the top or bottom. As I have to drive over so many humps these days, the bottom is unlikely to work out well. The ad/disadvantages made me think.

I have a couple of holes behind the bumper so can mount the number plate on the 2 metal stays. My thoughts are not for a additional brake light as it was not standard on the 1967s. Hopefully I will still be noticed ..........

My previous Morgan, a 1981 4/4 4-seater had the rear number plate under the bumper. It was fitted to a hinged plate so that the licence plate was not harmed by occational groundings. It seldom happened anyway.
