Is there a way of fitting a water control valve to the heater on a Dduratec engined Plus 4? As far as I can make out the heater core does not have its own water circuit but has been included in the engine recirculating flow circuit, which should not be shut off.

As far as I can make out the heater core does not have its own water circuit but has been included in the engine recirculating flow circuit, which should not be shut off. Most car heaters receive their heat from the coolant in a user controlled manner via the control valve which may be set anywhere between full on or off. As the flow to/from heater effectively sits piggy back (in parallel) with the thermostat bypass circuit there is no restriction to engine cooling or warm up with heater valve completely closed. This doesn't preclude the likelihood that the heater core may have its own dedicated feed from the cylinder head. Hopefully this helps

Thanks Richard, your comments confirm my understanding of normal practice. however on my Duratec powered Plus 4 there is no control valve in the heater water circuit. The heater does not seem to have a seperate water circuit as several of the normally independent Duratec coolant flow circuits seem to have been combined in this case.

Surprised there isn't a control valve hidden away somewhere. I know the heater fan controls heat output to a large degree but surely there is a need to turn off the flow through the core completely during summer. Even my old Land Rover has a manual tap for such in the engine compartment.
Maybe your local dealer will have more info on the Morgan specific installation.

On my 2007 1800 duratec, the heater blows cool air when it's at it's lowest setting. Had complaint from my resident passenger.
.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.

The heat control on my car comes from a flap which varies the amount of air passing over the heater core, its position controlled by the dash knob, air flow can be boosted by using the fan. there is no ambient fresh air provision for the footwells its always warmed by the heater, Not good on long trips in this weather. I think my only solution for summer running may be to just by pass the heater core.

Very interesting. I always assumed that the dash knob operated a water valve. Can you actually see the flap? What year is your Morgan?

I've been having the same thoughts about my Zetec engined 4/4.
I bought an inline valve from Car Builder Solutions and I'll plumb it in next time I drain down the cooling system.
I was planning to keep it simple and use it as an on / off valve depending on the average prevailing weather conditions.
I.e. off in the summer and on in the winter etc.
Only wish I'd done it before this hot spell.

Why is "Heater Control Valve" listed in the events calendar for today? Someone checked the "Events" box when posting to this thread?
