Having a less than full head of hair, it is very important to me to wear good head gear when driving topless (hood down) in Mog.
Baseball caps tend to blow off or at least feel as though they will and don't protect ears and neck from the sun.
Beany type hats get very warm in this weather and whilst feeling secure at speed they are not very sartorial especially when pulled down to protect ears and neck.
I also have a trapper type hat with ear covers that fasten under the chin. Very warm and secure for winter use but looks a bit daft in the summer.
So on the way to All Mog this weekend, I wore the beany hat for the fast work and changed to my Tilley hat when I got close and slowed down as it looks more the part but I didn't trust it at high speed assuming the brim would try to pull the hat upwards and only be held on precariously by the strap.
However I had a very pleasant surprise. The airflow actually had the effect of pushing the brim down slightly and even at 70+ mph it showed no sign of trying to lift off...
It kept the sun off my head, ears and neck yet still felt cool enough even in those baking temperatures.
So Tilley have, probably without knowing it, designed a hat that works in perfect harmony with the aerodynamics of the Trad Morgan. And its a lot more in keeping with the style than a baseball cap.
From now on Tilley is my preferred warm weather headgear.

I‘m a Tilley fan too. And it does fit the Morgan aerodynamics.

I know of a TMer (and Wild Mogger) known as “The Bee Keeper” who favours a Tilley 😉

The Tilley feels a little shakey at 70 but I probably sit higher than most of you and it has stopped me being burnt round the uk and now across the ditch, so pleased I chucked it in never thinking it would be this hot everyday.

This topic keeps coming up, and every time it does someone else becomes convinced of the benefits of a Tilley hat for hot weather Morganeering. I've had mine for just over a year now, and it's flippin' brilliant.
Give it another couple of years and it won't be a question of "Which hat do you favour for driving your Morgan?" but "Which model of Tilley do you prefer?".
If there's anyone out there who still hasn't discovered just how good these things are, I urge you to give one a try.

I must admit to being a flat cap wearer. There are a selection in my wardrobe for winter or summer use. I use a lanyard, clipped to my collar, to avoid loss at speed.
