A few months back I noticed a small mark about 6mm long on the vertical chassis tube by the lower front wishbone mount, this mark developed into a crack about 20mm long propagating from the weld where the lower front wishbone mount is welded to the tube.

Pictures below, showing what to look for.

Area circled is where the cracks are, this is RH side but check both sides of car.

Mine is on the right hand, drivers, side, but since finding mine a number of other cars have been found to have similar cracks either on the right hand side or left hand side or in one instance both sides. All the M3W’s seen with cracks to date are cars delivered in 2013. Depending on the light the cracks can be difficult to see, alternatevly rub your fingernail over the area to feel for any ridge.

Morgan had not seen this issue before and they have designed a new lower front wishbone mount, which has been fitted to my car. Pictures below

MMC’s response has been very good; from the initial contact with the problem they designed, procured and fitted the new lower front wishbone mounts to both sides within 3½ weeks.

I suggest you check your chassis in this area, if in any doubt contact your dealer.

Pleased to see they have sorted things out for you Rog (and good to see you briefly the other morning).
Good set of photos showing exactly what to look for and how things have been resolved. I sincerely hope there are no further problems with your car.

Good to hear you're back on the road Roger and hat's off to MMC for reacting swiftly to produce a fix.

The new mount certainly looks better than the old one. The front element of mIne (2016) failed at the bushing sleeve (shown in your bottom photo) recently - a clean break. I am waiting for MMC to complete its examination to see what caused it.

Pleased that you are back on the road and that you spotted the crack before it caused a complete failure.

My 2012 cracked in EXACTLY the same place. Had it welded, but didn't help and steering was off. Looked some more and found a complete break in the upper frame! Guys check EVERY weld. It took Morgan and my and my my dealer Bil Fink at ISIS motors here a while here in the Bay Area CA to obtain a new chassis and install it, Many thanks to Morgan AND Bill Fink for the fine job he did for the install. Now with the new chassis (2017) the car is the sweetest driver I can remember, unfortunately it has become quite difficult for me (84 years) to exit the cockpit, so I guess I'll have to sell my sweetie, sad.

I’ve just checked my 2013 and have found similar cracks in both verticals 🙁

Last time out I was racing it at Donington Park 😮

Thanks for the post Rog.....possible life saver!!!

I urge everyone to go and urgently check their M3W’s right now!

My 2012 cracked in the same place mid 2017 and Morgan replaced the entire chassis. There is just no fixing that one!
