This guy had it right I never saw him in a blessed baseball cap or Tilley
It would take a damn sight more that a flat hat and a set of overalls for people to confuse me with Steve McQueen! Likewise Tim - these comparisons are best carried out after nightfall

Of course some TMers prefer a rather more swashbuckling look. Good work John you do look a very amiable set of Muskateers .

This guy had it right I never saw him in a blessed baseball cap or Tilley he was a style icon and I'm happy with my Tweed or leather flat hat in the winter and nothing but my thatch for summer. The Tilleys make sense but too many twitchers and boaty sorts down here wear them. Are you sure he never wore a Tilley. Looks like a Morgan driver to me.

I agree he does look like a Morgan driver (wonder if he ever did) but I think that's a Stetson, very close though.

I have been choosing from a range of hats recently - all conveniently stacked on the passenger seat. Constantly changing hats as each one is needed for different conditions encountered on my regular journey from Oxford to West Sussex. A red baseball cap with elastic for high speed (M-40), tethered with a sailor’s clip-on; a light straw panama type hat for traffic jams (M-25) and a viet-cong jungle hat with chin strap for dual carriageway (A-3) also keeps sun off ears; back to the panama for country roads. Just lost a Panama hat changing lanes on the M25 and accelerating too fast to fill a gap. Discovering that hats can be expensive.

Did you mean Mr Bean or Tony Benn (Anthony Wedgwood Benn to the older members)

One the strength of this discussion just bought one of these (active link) since whatever hat you choose some security is needed except maybe for a beany.
