1912 M3W. Can anyone help.
My right hand fuel tank is leaking at the supporting flange. The tank has to be removed and welded. How is this done:
1) Pull tank up and out (is their enough gap)
2) Does one pull it out from the bottom.
or 3) Take of whole rear wheel support mechanism off and drop it out.
Is there anyone who has experienced a leak before.

Hi New Zealand.
Unfortunately cannot help you with extraction method from 1912 M3W but fuel tanks leaks are fairly common in amongst four wheeler fraternity as the tank can flexes a lot. Generally they are soldered, unless yours has been remade perhaps in stainless steel.
If fairly original once you extract it take it too a radiator repair shop that does fuel tanks as well. Do you have contacts for the older M3W in New Zealand? There are a number who should be able to assist. If not get back in touch with me and I will look on the membership list to hopefully point you in the right direction.

I had a leak in the left hand side tank due to a weld fracture.
I elected to have the tank replaced rather than repaired and this was done by the dealer. In either case the tank needed to be removed from the car and split apart from the plywood base.
I'm not sure if it came out through the top or bottom and I think they took the back wheel out but don't believe they had to strip the back end down any further.
It's an aluminium tank so anyone who can weld ally could repair it.

Same here, a cracked weld. It was discovered when the car was taken apart after the original cush drive gave out.
The tank was taken out and welded, how I do not know.
You are not alone. MMC was not interested in my case, at least not according to my dealer.
M3W, now!!!

It seems that the tanks were installed before the body was put on.
Auto Restoration cut a bit off the frame, removed the rear wheel and took it upwards and out. A job well done BUT I await the cost.
